Port Aventura

If you travel with the whole family to Catalonia, you should visit the theme park Port Aventura. It is the largest amusement park in Spain and the second largest in Europe. It is located in Salou, next to Tarragona, at the Costa Dorada. Moreover, it is owned by La Caixa and was opened in 1995. It offers about 30 rides, including six roller coasters and three water rides. The resort consists of the Port Aventura Park, the Caribe Aquatic Park, a beach club and hotels.


Port Aventura Park

If you visit the Port Aventura Park you will experience adventures that are unforgettable. The offered roller coasters, the different shows and the restaurants are unique and generate an exciting stay. Due to the fact that the park is a theme park, it is divided into different sections with special topics.

Mediterrania:
This section is also the main entrance of the park. It offers two rides as well as many restaurants and shops. The buildings reproduce a typical Catalan city at the coast. In the summer, you can enjoy a special show with fireworks at the lake.

Mexico:
This area is the most thrilling in the whole park. The main attractions are the “Templo del Fuego”, which is a Mayan temple in the type of Indiana Jones, and the “Hurakan Condor”, which is a drop tower ride and generates a fantastic view over the whole park area. The “El Diabolo”, which is a mine train, is an attraction for children as well as for the adults.

China:
In this area you can find the biggest roller coaster in the park, the “Dragon Khan”. It consists of eight inversions and should definitely be experienced. Also the other rides “Tea Cubs”, “Fumanchu” and “Cobra Imperial” are worth seeing.

Far West:
The largest area represents an old city in the Wild West. There are the many different attractions, which include “Stampia” (a wooden roller coaster), two water rides and also smaller rides for the children. The buildings and sculptures generate the typical feeling of the Wild West.

Polynesia:
This area provides many junior roller coasters and two main rides, which are “Tutuki Splash” and “Sea Odyssey”. The rides can are suitable for everybody.

Special Events:
The park can be visited the whole year. There are seasonal events, like for Halloween and Christmas. In these times, the park offers special shows and other attractions which represent the events in an authentic way.
 

As the Port Aventura is located in Salou at the Costa Dorada, it is possible to make a day trip to the park while living in a city at the Costa Dorada, in Barcelona or even at the Costa Brava. But it is also possible to stay in a Port Aventura hotel directly in the resort. Three different hotels in the park are available and they offer every comfort you need for enjoying the trip.


How to get there

As the park is located at the Costa Dorada, it is possible to reach two airports within 30 minutes by car. The resort has also a train station, which offers connections to Barcelona within one and a half hour, to Salou and Tarragona.
