The picturesque Costa Dorada with its golden beaches, charming villages and towns as well as its unique culture and history offers a lot to discover. The impressive nature is full of contrasts: the blue transparent sea, the green mountains and the colorful red of the vines. In ancient towns are still old fisherman’s quarters with a rural flair which stands in a pleasant contrast to the urban feeling in larger towns like Tarragona. Scenic travel routes and attractions as well as historic monuments and other sightseeing with a plenty of enchantments can be explored and enjoyed.
Tarragona Route:
The city is located in the South of Catalonia. As many ancient buildings and monuments still remain, it is a city with a distinctive historic flair. You can explore the Cyclopean walls of the Romans, the leavings of an amphitheater and a Roman arch bridge, which is a few kilometers outside the city. Thus, Tarragona offers a lot to explore with regard to the culture and history of Catalonia.
Salou Route:
Salou is located next to Tarragona. It has beaches which are interrupted by rocky coves and the port was used by the Greeks and Romans in former times. After that, Salou was a nest for pirates until a defense tower (Torre Vella) was built in 1530. This tower can still be visited. Also the
Port Aventura is located next to this city. It is the biggest theme park in Spain.
Elbro Delta Route:
The Elbro Delta covers more than 300 square kilometers and it is the second largest area of wetland in the Mediterranean region. It consists of lakes with salt water, beaches with sand dunes, lagoons, areas where water from the underground comes to the outside and unique riverbanks. Furthermore, it became a national park and various species of birds and ducks exist there. To visit it, you can go by ferry or bicycle.
Beach Route:
The Costa Dorada is a touristic destination but there are still some beaches which are unspoiled and not crowded. These are Els Eucaliptus beach in Amposta, La Punta del Fangar beach in Deltebre and the Waikiki beach in Tarragona.
